Lawton Thompson, 23, was arrested on December 27 for the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old Prescott-area girl.

A 23-year-old man, who is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old, Prescott-area girl and then offering her money and drugs to remain silent, was arrested in Prescott Valley on Dec. 27, according to a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) news release.

The man, Lawton Thompson, had been renting a room from the girl’s father. While intoxicated at the home, he reportedly made advances on the girl in mid-December.

When she resisted, he reportedly restrained her and continued the sexual assault, the YCSO reported this week. She was able to escape when someone knocked on the door.

Thompson later offered to give the girl drugs and money if she kept quiet about what had happened, according to the report. The girl eventually told a family member about the assault and that information was passed along to the Sheriff’s Office.

Thompson was found and arrested inside a Prescott Valley business. He faces several charges, including sales of marijuana, involving a minor in a drug offense, sexual abuse of a victim under 15, molestation of a child and kidnapping. He is currently in custody on a $150,000 bond.
