A Dewey home on S. River Dr. went up in flames Tuesday night, Jan. 21.

Firefighters with the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) responded to the scene shortly before 10 p.m. with four engines and three water tenders, according to CAFMA personnel.

By the time they got there, the home’s tile roof was already completely ablaze, so they focused on containing the fire to the property.

The home was unoccupied, for it was undergoing a remodel, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), who also responded.

The home is considered a total loss, with an estimated value of between $150,000 and $180,000 in damages, said Chris Wilson with YCSO.

CAFMA personnel continued to check on the smoldering remains throughout much of Wednesday to ensure the fire didn’t flare back up from any residual heat.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation due to suspicious circumstances, Wilson said.
