PRESCOTT — Yavapai baseball’s Christian Encarnacion-Strand continues to reap the fruits of his labor as he was named to the NCJAA Division I All-American First Team on Tuesday.

The freshman infielder out of Pleasant Hill, Calif., put together a season for the ages where the offensive juggernaut led the ACAAC in home runs and batting average with 22 and .402, respectively. His sensational play also earned him the ACCAC/Region I Player of the Year award.

Encarnacion-Strand’s selection to one of the All-American teams made him the 32nd Roughrider to do so in program history. To top it off, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round of the MLB draft last week.

The Roughriders’ season came to a close when Central Arizona defeated them twice in the three-game NJCAA Region I Division Championship series. Encarnacion-Strand went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer in that final game of the series.
