Editor:

I have a problem with the editorial cartoon in the Saturday, Jan. 26, Daily Courier which compared the cost of Trump’s border wall with “Pelosi’s shutdown.”

Did my lyin’ ears and lyin’ eyes both deceive me when I heard and saw Trump say “I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. ... So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”? (Dec. 11.)

Did my senses again deceive me when Trump rejected a compromise proposed by his vice president to end the shutdown – a compromise that the Republican Senate unanimously passed?

My lyin’ senses must have tricked me again when now Speaker Pelosi’s House of Representatives approved that same Senate-passed measure only to have Mitch McConnell not allow it come back for a vote. (Jan. 3.)

My problem is that I’m beginning to wonder if I really saw that editorial cartoon.
