Seaman Sarah Johnson of Prescott is serving in the U.S. Navy with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Two (HSC-2) at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia. Johnson credits success in the Navy to many of the lessons learned growing up in Prescott.

“I grew up on a farm so I have a strong work ethic,” Johnson said. “Pursuance of goals when given opportunities is important to me. I like to take advantage of opportunities.”

Though there are many ways for sailors to earn distinction in their command, community and career, Johnson is most proud of getting accepted for legalman school.

“It’s what I’ve been pursuing since college,” she said. “Now I have an opportunity in the Navy.”

Serving in the Navy is a continuing tradition of military service for Johnson, who has military ties with family members who have previously served. Johnson is honored to carry on the family tradition.

“Serving means accepting responsibility and sacrifice to better yourself,” Johnson said.
