A fence was allegedly damaged by a hit-and-run driver in the 1400 block of East Butterfield Road Friday night, April 12.

If you’ve seen a damaged Dodge being driven around Prescott in the last few days, you might be able to help local authorities locate the suspect of a recent hit-and-run.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) is looking for someone they believe plowed through a private property owner’s fence with a vehicle in the 1400 block of East Butterfield Road (near the Prescott National Cemetery off of Highway 69) Friday night, April 12.

Deputies with YCSO were dispatched to the scene at about 8:15 p.m., according to a YCSO news release. The victim told them he heard a loud crashing sound at his fence line and found his fence had been damaged. About 15 to 20 feet of fence and several posts were knocked down, according to the release. A large boulder had also been hit and moved several feet. The damage is estimated between $500 and $1,000, YCSO reported.

A nearby neighbor told deputies that while inside his house, he heard a loud crashing sound, followed by tires spinning and loud exhaust, according to the release. He went outside and heard the vehicle heading toward Chisolm Trail on Butterfield Road. The witness believed the vehicle was still in the area as the street is a loop with no outlets to other streets. Deputies checked the area, but could not locate the suspect vehicle.

“No one actually saw the vehicle drive away,” said YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn.

During a check of the damage to the fence area, a vehicle part was found belonging to a Dodge, possibly a Dodge Durango RT or SRT, YCSO reported.

“The vehicle should have sustained significant damage,” said YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect driver or vehicle is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 928-771-3260.
