The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is recalling 91,388 pounds of raw ground turkey products that may be linked to a multi-state salmonella outbreak.

Salmonella is a common foodborne illness that causes diarrhea, stomach cramps and a fever. Symptoms can last four to seven days.

The FDA says the products were manufactured by Wisconsin-based Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales, LLC on September 11 and shipped to stores nationwide.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, and its public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Arizona Department of Health Services, have been conducting traceback activities for a sample of Jennie-O brand ground turkey in an intact, unopened package from a case-patient’s home. The patient tested positive for Salmonella Reading and the sample from the ground turkey matches the outbreak strain.

Health officials said raw turkey products from numerous sources are contaminated, including ground turkey and turkey patties, and warned that additional products from other companies may also be recalled.
