A number of downtown businesses are taking part in the inaugural Cinco “Day” Drinko Pub Crawl on Saturday, May 5.
Organizer San Martin Rodriguez of www.PrescottNightOut.com said that since he’s all about creating shows and making things happen around town, a Cinco de Mayo pub crawl was something he wanted to create.
“I basically just create,” Rodriguez said. “This was one of the best times to bring one on. Plus once again it’s a Saturday so it’s a no brainer for the local area.”
Calling the event Cinco “Day” Drinko didn’t seem too controversial either as there’s not really anything to get offended by, he said. Further, organizer Matt Brassard, owner of Matt’s Saloon, said Cinco de Mayo being a day for drinking is something that people have always joked about.
The event starts at 1 p.m. with registration at The Office Restaurant & Bar, 128 N. Cortez St., and ends with an after-party at Matt’s Saloon. 112 S. Montezuma St. Other participating locations include Jersey Lilly Saloon, Bird Cage Saloon, Far From Folsom, Granite Mountain Brewing, Prescott Brewing Company, Devil’s Pantry, Whiskey Row Pub, and Coppertop Ale House.
There are a few other events going on Saturday as well, such as the Whiskey Row Marathon and the Kentucky Derby, with Matt’s Saloon being the only place in Prescott for off-track betting. Saturday evening, Nathan Dean & the Damn Band will be performing at Matt’s, Brassard said.
Bringing people together to keep the community a vibrant one is a pretty big deal for him, Rodriguez said, adding that Prescott is very open to things that do just that as well.
“I see that everybody loves the community, I think that they need to be more a part of it,” Rodriguez said. “Not in the sense of just drinking, just in the sense of bringing and making things happen.”
Additionally, Brassard said it would be great to have an event such as Cinco “Day” Drinko not only continue on, but do so on a day other than Saturday. It would definitely help out with getting people downtown and into the community, Rodriguez said.
Brassard also urged whoever is participating in Saturday’s pub crawl to be safe and make plans ahead of time to have a designated driver.
“We’ll offer free sodas or coffee for designated drivers,” he said of Matt’s Saloon.
