Obituary: Richard Lloyd Trevallee

CWO4 Richard Lloyd Trevallee, retired USCG, was born on Jan. 14, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri, and passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018, in Prescott, Arizona.

Richard was a dedicated and amazing father and step-father, lovingly raising his first wife’s little girl right alongside his own. He was also a very proud veteran. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1954 and served his country for 26 years. During that time, he was given several commendations and awards, including a Bronze Star. In 1980, he retired from the Coast Guard and moved with his youngest daughter to Prescott Valley, Arizona.

In 1986, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He fought a long, hard battle and would not allow cancer to slow him down. Even with the toll the cancer took on his body, he pursued his love of nature and joined the Prescott Hiking Club. There he met his wife, Shirley, and together they spent years hiking and camping all over the Southwestern United States. Richard also loved photography and captured their travels on film.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on May 1, 2018.

Richard is survived by his brother, Robert Trevallee; his son, Richard “Dean” Trevallee (Doreen); his daughter, Barbara Erwin (Gary); step-daughter, Lynn Koncabe (Ronnie); his step-sons, Mark Hamblen and Scott Hamblen (Susan); as well as his grandchildren, Spencer Trevallee (Rene), Kim Muntzinger (Chad), Richard “Rick” Trevallee, Kaylane Williams, Kelsey Williams, Kaitlyn Lugo, Maria Lugo and EJ Lugo. He also has five great-grandchildren.

Hampton Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. He will be laid to rest at a date to be determined at Arlington National Cemetery. In Richard’s memory, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
