The Cordes Lakes Community Association has received a measure of new energy, following the Thursday, Jan. 11, meeting.
Many residents recently recognized that the Community Association was having challenges with events, maintaining the amenities, and getting volunteers to help with everything required. In response, a few of the old members got together to try for reorganization and working toward getting some younger members interested in the community and helping with the Community Center.
The center regularly features Taco Tuesday, Wednesday Bingo, and hosts the Easter Egg Hunt and Cookies with Santa, as well as the food distribution program. Without volunteers to help, all of these could go away.
Lucy Corder chaired the Jan. 11 meeting with Judy Slankard and Todd Hamilton, the only remaining board members. Applications were available for anyone who was willing to run for the open offices or board positions. These were filled and voting was done at this meeting. Also, some younger people were there and submitted applications, explaining why they felt they were the best for one the positions. Ballots were quickly made and distributed and voting was done.
In this day of non-volunteer help, it was gratifying to see quite a few younger people running for the board and others offering their help. Hopefully this group can turn around the decline of the association and get it back on track. Our thanks to the new President, Shawn Robertson; Vice President, Nick Nono; Secretary, June Thurman; Treasurer, Lucy Corder; and new board members, Mary Sepala, Don Ridlon and Steven Want.
Congratulations, and we look forward to many good things coming our way.
