Major League Baseball and Full Swing Sports Center are scheduled to sponsor a free home run derby for boys and girls Sunday, April 15, at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott. The derby is scheduled to take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration begins at noon. Age groups are 12U, born after July 18, 2005, and 14U, born between July 18, 2003, and July 17, 2005. A long-ball challenge exhibition event for ages 16 and under is scheduled for the end of the derby. Long derby winners from each age bracket will advance to the regional competition at the Arizona Diamondbacks’ spring training facility at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale. Pitch, hit and run contest set for April 21 in Prescott Valley
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation Department pairs with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arizona to bring the annual pitch, hit and run competition Saturday, April 21, at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. Contest registration begins at 10 a.m. for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, which will have a chance to advance all the way to the MLB All-Star Game at Nationals Park on July 17 in Washington, D.C. After registration, the event begins at 11 a.m. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have a parent or guardian fill out the registration/waiver form prior to the start of competition. Mile High PBR returns to Prescott Valley April 28
For the seventh consecutive year, the Professional Bull Riding organization will make a stop in Prescott Valley. The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Prescott Valley Event Center. Tickets start at just $12 and doors open at 6 p.m. The Mile High PBR will host top bull riders vying for a piece of a $10,000 payout. PGA Junior League Golf taking signups for local players this summer
The Prescott Golf and Country Club in Prescott Valley, and the Quailwood Greens Golf Course in Dewey, are taking signups for the annual PGA Junior League Golf this summer. Originating 3 years ago with 18 players, the league grew to more than 30 local golfers in 2017 and in 2018, so far, more than 40 have signed up. The league is $175 for the season, which runs April through July. Limited scholarships are available to those in need. After the season is complete, an All-Stars group is formed for postseason play in August. Registration is open through April 30. Players can go online to register at pgajlg.com. A PGA fee of $75 is remitted online via credit card, which includes a numbered golf jersey, golf hat, bag tags and a practice T-shirt. The $175 fee for the season covers tee and green fees, postseason play, opening day jamboree barbeque, all range balls and the awards dinner at the end of the season. 40th annual YMCA Whiskey Row Marathon set for May 5
The 40th annual YMCA Whiskey Row Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, in Prescott. The marathon hosts several runs, including a 2-mile Fun Run/Walk, 10K, half and full marathon. The first and last 5 miles are run along open, paved roads, while the remainder of the course cuts through Ponderosa Pine-covered Prescott National Forest on dirt roads. On Friday, May 4, participants can pick up their packets at the YMCA from 3 to 8 p.m. On the day of the race, runners can pick up the packet at 5 a.m. at Matt’s Saloon. Embry-Riddle summer basketball camp set for June 4-7
The Embry-Riddle men’s basketball team invites all local players to participate in its annual Embry-Riddle Men’s Summer Basketball Camp on Monday through Thursday, June 4 to 7, on the university’s Prescott campus. Players will receive coaching from the Eagles’ staff on a variety of basketball skills during the four-day camp. Ages 7-11 are from 9 to 11 a.m. and ages 12-16 are 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on each day. City of Prescott teams with Antelope Hills to offer junior golf class
The City of Prescott and Antelope Hills Golf Course have joined to offer junior golfers a FUNdamental Golf Class that will teach young people interested in the game how to play in a fast, safe and courteous manner. This 90 minutes class is open to junior’s ages 7 to 18 for various dates and times throughout the year. Pre-registration and payment of $10 is required. After completion, a junior golfer may participate in the Junior Developmental Program, which includes complimentary green fees and range balls for $20 per month.
