Norman Dee Bennett

Norman Dee Bennett, 82, of Prescott, Arizona, died Wednesday March 15, 2017, in Prescott.

He was born Sept. 4, 1934 in Prescott, Arizona to Henry E. Bennett and Wilma J. (Wells) Bennett. Norman was raised in Kirkland, Arizona, until 1953 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Essex and proudly served his country.

Toward the end of his service years, he began corresponding through letter with a beautiful lady named Joyce Rosecrans. They fell in love and married. Their marriage flourished for 50 years until Norman’s beautiful wife sadly passed away.

Together they raised four children, Durcella (Dan) Cordoza of Woodland, Calif.; Anna Bennett of Peeples Valley, Ariz.; Robert (Debbie) Bennett of Goldhills, Oreg; and Rena McDaniel of Chino Valley, Ariz. Norman was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren that he just loved and adored.

He worked at the Bagdad Copper Mine in the Mill Maintenance Department as a supervisor for 35 years. Norman and Joyce just loved the outdoors, and Norman knew the area around Bagdad and Kirkland like the back of his hand. He retired from the mine in 1991. He and Joyce moved to Yarnell, where they resided until Joyce passed in 2006. It was then that he moved to the Pioneers’ Home in Prescott, where he spent the rest of his life being loved and cared for. He acquired many new friends there that loved him.

Norman will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Oran Bennett, and sister Lorraine Bennett. He is also survived by a younger brother, Gary Schul.

There will be a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave. Prescott, Ariz. Burial with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at the Peeples Valley Cemetery, Peeples Valley, Ariz.
