I don’t think my letter will be very popular, but it comes to my mind every year when we get ready to light Prescott’s square for the holidays. I know we pride ourselves on being Arizona’s Christmas City, but I think our color lighted trees are a bit overdone! They are so much of a distraction that our beautiful Court House is hardly noticed. I call it the psychedelic forest.
Here is an example of the lighted trees overshadowing the court house. We had friends coming from CA to visit. To get to our home they had to go past the square. When they arrived I asked them about the lighting on the square. They both agreed it was beautiful. Then I asked if they liked our lovely court house. Their answer was, “What court house?”
I love Christmas lights, but the square would be more attractive with less color lighted trees! Use more clear white lights, possibly the twinkling type. It would be much more complimentary to the whole setting.
