Three people who authorities said were illegally catching a ride on a BSNF freight train near the town of Hillside on Dec. 3 were arrested by Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies got the call from a railroad dispatcher about 5:30 p.m. and set up in an area ahead of the train, said Dwight D’Evelyn, YCSO spokesman.
When the train arrived and stopped, the deputies were unable to find the hitchhikers at first, but then, D’Evelyn said, a woman stuck her head out of a freight car, and she was spotted.
Deputies arrested three people, Israel Olague, 25, from Tucson, a 22-year-old from California, and a 22-year-old man, who is listed as a transient.
They were charged with trespassing, a misdemeanor, and booked into the Camp Verde jail.
Olague also had a federal warrant for a drug charge, and, because he first showed deputies an allegedly bogus ID, was charged with ID theft as well.
