MYSTICS 100, FEVER 80
WASHINGTON (AP) — Krystal Thomas had 20 points and 14 rebounds, and the Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 100-80 on Saturday night in a game that was delayed 48 minutes to start the second half because of water on the court.
The Mystics (16-10) were up by 13 at the half before the game was delayed because of a leak in the Verizon Center roof. It was the second time in two weeks that there was water on the court because of a leak. The Mystics were supposed to play the Connecticut Sun on July 28, but that game was called about 50 minutes after the 7 p.m. scheduled start because of water on the floor. That game will be made up on Aug. 29.
On Saturday, Verizon Center workers put a yellow tarp above the court to contain the leak and the second half began late. The teams entertained themselves and the fans during part of the delay by having a dance contest.
Candice Dupree led Indiana with 26 points. The Fever (9-19) were missing guards Briann January and Tiffany Mitchell, who were both out with knee injuries.
SUN 96, WINGS 88
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Alyssa Thomas had 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and Jonquel Jones added 19 points, 16 boards and five blocked shots to help the Sun beat the Wings.
Courtney Williams also scored 19 points, Shekinna Stricklen had 15 and Alex Bentley 12 for Connecticut (17-9), which will be headed to the playoffs for the first time since 2012 after the Atlanta Dream lost to the San Antonio Stars later on Saturday. The Sun have won five in a row overall and eight straight at home.
Glory Johnson hit two free throws that gave Dallas a one-point lead, its first since midway through the first quarter, with 5:31 to play but Williams answered with a jumper. Thomas took her own steal coast-to-coast for a layup and then hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 84-80 about one minute later and the Sun led the rest of the way.
Allisha Gray led Dallas (13-16) with a career-high 21 points. Glory Johnson had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Skylar Diggins-Smith added 19 points. The Wings have lost six consecutive road games.
STARS 84, DREAM 68
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Isabelle Harrison scored 23 points and the Stars beat Atlanta, handing the Dream their seventh straight loss.
Kayla McBride and Moriah Jefferson added 14 points apiece and Kelsey Plum had 10 as the Stars (7-22) won for the fourth time in five games after starting the season 0-14.
Brittney Sykes scored 28 points and Elizabeth Williams had 16 with five blocks for the Dream (10-18), who have lost eight in a row on the road.
San Antonio led 23-19 after the first quarter and two baskets by Jefferson in the middle of an 8-0 run pushed the lead to 37-27 late in the second quarter. After a basket Sykes ended the run, the Stars ended the half with a 7-2 run, taking a 43-31 lead at the half.
Atlanta got within nine once midway through the third quarter but trailed 68-54 entering the fourth and never got closer.
