Alexander James Knapp

Alexander James Knapp, 19, died on September 19, 2016 surrounded by loving family and friends at YRMC in Prescott, where he entered and left this world. Alex was educated at The Children’s Center of Prescott, Skyview School, Prescott Mile High Middle School and Prescott High School, where he graduated in May of 2015. He completed the Electric Utility Technology certificate program at Yavapai College in July of 2016.

Hockey was a big part of Alex’s life. He began playing in 2nd grade. He spent many happy years practicing at Pioneer Park, with his friends and his brother, and attending tournaments around the state. He often had a hockey bag in the back of his car, even when not playing. He joined adult league last spring, and was prepared to play in that league again this fall.

Many of Alex’s kindergarten friendships were life-long. The extended family experiences provided through inclusion in his friends’ summer travel, camping trips and other adventures enriched his life. In a high school essay he wrote, “I love all of my friends and don’t know what I would do without them. It is crazy how much friends can impact you and help make life easier.” His friends’ words echoed the same theme: “a loveable, funny, cheerful guy, who everyone wanted to be around,” with “literally the sweetest smile.”

Family ski trips, snowboarding, time spent together outdoors, and trips to the beach built treasured memories. Alex’s grandma had a large role in his upbringing, helping care for him from birth. They were great pals and he loved spending time with her. He also had great times with his Uncle Bobby in Hawaii. He was deeply loved.

The family especially thanks the YRMC Intensive Care Unit and Donor Network of Arizona staffs for their exceptional care and support.

A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at Chapel Rock Camp and Conference Center in Prescott, on Saturday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m.
